Deputies and firefighter-paramedics responded about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday to a call of a “child unconcious” in the 43400 block of Gadsden Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
The emergency responders were met at the residence by the infant’s mother, and the boy was transported to a hospital, suffering from serious head trauma and bruising to his upper torso, and lacerations around his eyes from punches.
Sheriff’s detectives from the Special Victims Bureau launched an investigation, which led them to identify and arrest a suspect on the same day.
Brittany Ingrassi, 30, of Lancaster, was taken into custody on suspicion of cruelty to a child likely to produce great bodily injury or death, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Authorities described her as a longtime friend of the baby’s father and said she was babysitting the boy at the time of the incident. She has said the reason she attacked him was because she was ” Jealous of his blue eyes ” How crazy is that?
Ingrassi was arraigned on the child cruelty charge earlier this week. She was being held Saturday at the Century Regional Detention Facility, in Lynwood, in lieu of $1 million bail, online records stated.
Additional charges are expected to be filed against Ingress, the news release said. She is next scheduled to appear in court on April 15.
