This 11-Year-Old Girl Delivers Her Baby Sister All By Herself After Mom’s Water Broke Suddenly

Most kids in early age would cry, panic, and be frightened in times of emergency. However 11-year-old Caitlin Burke from Tamworth, Staffordshire is different, as she showed how composure during emergency crisis can produce positive results. This brave girl delivered her baby sister completely by herself and then went to school just like a normal day.

Tara, Caitlin’s mother, was having contractions early in the morning, so she sent her husband Daniel Burke to drop their youngest daughter to his sister’s house. But her water broke suddenly, just 10 minutes after her husband left.

Being the eldest of the five siblings, Caitlin rushed to her mother’s aid and calmly stayed with her through the two-hour labor.

With help of ambulance medics through the phone, she delivered her baby sister all by herself and even managed to untangle the umbilical cord wrapped around the baby.

Amazingly, after the baby named Elisa-Monet was delivered, Caitlin just continued her day and went to school.

Caitlin told the Birmingham Mail that she was “a bit scared and shaky at first” but because of this, she was inspired to be a midwife in the future.

Caitlin said, “When my sister was born, I was really happy. I think she’s really cute and I love her very much. My friends at school and teachers were really happy and proud of me.”

Her mom, Tara said, “I couldn’t do what Caitlin has done at my age, let alone at the age of 11… She got the towels, she then helped remove the cord because it was wrapped around the baby. And she helped to rub and stimulate her because she wasn’t crying.”

Tara also said that she is ‘so proud’ of Caitlin and amazed by how calm she was throughout.

And she knew from her previous pregnancies that the labor would not last long and instructed her daughter to call an ambulance.
