15 year old could not breath and had to be put asleep. What he said when he woke…AMAZING – Momma Buzz

15 year old could not breath and had to be put asleep. What he said when he woke…AMAZING

  • Trevor Sullivan was diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy last February
  • He underwent surgery when donor became available after eight months
  • The 15-year-old, from Detroit, Michigan, told his parents he felt ‘amazing’ in a clip that was shared on Facebook by his father and quickly went viral

This touching video shows the moment a teenager woke up after a heart transplant and told his emotional parents: ‘I can breathe again.’

Trevor Sullivan, of Detroit, who was diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy in February last year, underwent surgery when a donor heart became available after eight months of waiting.

The 15-year-old asked his mother Kimberly to record his first moments after the anesthesia wore off following his operation on November 13.

In the video, a tearful Trevor tells his parents: ‘I’m so happy. I’ve been waiting so long. I can breathe again and talk.’

And when his father Philip asks him if he feels good, Trevor replies: ‘I feel amazing. I’ve never felt so good.’

Earlier this week, Philip Sullivan shared a clip on the Facebook page for the Gift of Life Michigan. The non-profit organization promotes organ and tissue donation.

The video quickly went viral and has been viewed more than a million times since.

And a recovered Trevor said ‘I really like the video, actually. I think it’s really cool and I wish everyone in the world can see it because it really makes a difference.’

He added that the clip promotes organ donation and shows people how grateful recipients really are.

‘I can do anything now,’ he added. ‘I do feel really relieved.’

Trevor’s mother said: ‘[The video] blew me away.’

Although she wasn’t sure what to expect, she’d assumed her son would wake up feeling disoriented.

‘He made all the worrying that a mom would do go away,’ she added.

Trevor’s father explained to the station that his eldest son had been feeling unwell for around a year but the family had no idea what was wrong.

He was diagnosed after being airlifted to hospital on February 12 last year after suffering from sudden heart failure.

According to a GoFundMe page dedicated to raising funds for Trevor’s care, doctors shocked his heart twice trying to normalize his heartbeat – and are still trying to determine the cause of Trevor’s heart failure.

He was discharged a few weeks later and put on the heart transplant register.

All the family know about the donor is that it came from a younger person who had good muscle tissue and a ‘strong heart’.

Although the Sullivan family do not know who donated the heart, Trevor now has, Philip Sullivan wants to tell them: ‘Thank you for saving my kid.’
