While you might not expect an ice cube tray of concrete to turn into anything cute, you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you see this craft in action.
The creator of Krafty Kath, Kathy had a genius idea. And she decided to put it to good use. She wanted to use silicon ice cube trays to create concrete wire stands to label her next buffet party.
Intimidate by cement? Don’t be! Look below to see how easy it is to use.
The project requires a few basic items:
- Metal pins
- Silicon ice cube trays
- Piece of cardboard
- Plastic cups
- Cement mix
Trace your piece of cardboard over the cube tray. This will become a template for later on.
Next mix your cement as per the directions. Wear a mask at this point.
When the concrete is mixed, use a stick to pour it carefully into the cube molds.
Grab your cardboard template and use it to stick the wires down the center. This helps the wire stay standing while the cement sets.
Just pop them out of the tray after the cement has set.
“They are really easy to get out of the tray,” Kathy wrote on her blog post about the project. “Just wiggle them a little and they’ll shimmy out.”
After that your stands are ready to use. Just print a cute note and put it in the wire.
“Use them for displaying postcards, photos, or even table place cards,” Kathy wrote. “I think they turned out super cute, and there is one already adorning my desk at work!”
