A mother in North Carolina blamed her own child for a car accident after she slammed into a utility pole.
State troopers are investigating a car accident that happened outside of the Drowning Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
According to authorities, a 6-year-old girl is in critical condition after being ejected from the car, but her mother is already pointing the finger at the child.
“The mother seemed to be more worried about her phone and money than her kid,” Firefighter Travis Clark said after the accident. “The mother was ranting and raving that the accident was the kid’s fault.”
State trooper Jeff Baker said the mother went on and on about how she ran into the pole after turning around to check on her daughter, even though the little girl wasn’t properly restrained in her car seat.
While the mother wasn’t harmed in the accident, the little girl was seriously injured.
“The kid is in bad shape,” Baker said. “It is important to buckle up kids and make sure they stay restrained.”
The mother, who reportedly possessed Subutex, a drug used to treat opioid addiction, is expected to be charged with one misdemeanor count of reckless driving and receive an infraction for improper child restraint.
