A mother and two other women savagely beat a 5-year-old boy and his 6-year-old brother for 22-hours in a Middletown, Ohio motel room killing the 5-year-old and severely injuring his brother.
The boys’ mother, 26-year-old Theresa Hawkins-Stephens and her two friends Rachael Bostian, 29, and Ramona Bostian, 56, were arrested and charged with felonious assault and felony child endangering.
When the 5-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries, Hawkins-Stephens and Rachael Bostian were also charged with his murder.
On April 27, police received a 911 call from a woman identifying herself as Rachael Bostian reported that a boy had died after wandering away from their campsite.
“We were camping in the woods, and he escaped the tent when we were sleeping, and he was gone for a couple days and some kids got a hold of him and messed him up real bad, and we didn’t realize how bad it was,” she said over the phone.
The firefighters and police who arrived on the scene were so disturbed, chaplins were called in to help console them. When the boys were brought to the hospital, the medical professionals burst into tears when they saw the boys’ condition.
Assistant chief of Middletown police, Major Mark Hoffman said the incident was “horrific.”
“It’s the worst that I’ve seen, anybody on the scene has seen,” he said.
Supposedly, after one of the boys stole food, the women wrapped them in sheets and savagely beat them. The assault lasted all day April 26 and most of April 27.
The women are due to appear in court on Friday May 6.
